Tamil National Alliance MP M.A. Sumanthiran said the decision to bury COVID19 victims in Iranativu was a carefully orchestrated move to drive a rift between the Tamil and Muslim communities in Sri Lanka.
Sumanthiran made this remark while commenting on the protests erupting in Iranativu against the burial of COVID19 victims in the area.
Residents of the island stated that the burial of COVID19-infected bodies in the area would contaminate the water resources used by them.
The TNA MP said Iranativu, an island in the North, was selected as a burial site for COVID19 victims as a strategic move to create a rift between Tamils and Muslims.
Sumanthiran said their unity was demonstrated in the "P2P protest", organized by the TNA, against issues faced by minority parties including forced cremations.
