The Court of Appeal has ruled that the clearing of the Kallar area of ​​the Wilpattu Sanctuary is illegal.

The ruling was delivered today in response to a petition filed by the Center for Environmental Justice to declare the clearing of hundreds of acres in the area illegal.

Issuing the order, the Court of Appeal ordered former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen to reforest the Kallar area which had been cleared with his own money.
