The Prisons Department has instructed prison officials to stay in their quarters for two weeks.

Accordingly, it is reported that no officer of the Welikada, Colombo Remand and Magazine prisons will be allowed to leave the prison.

Meanwhile, 159 COVID19 infected people have been identified so far in prisons.

However, steps have been taken to send the reported COVID19 infected prisoners to Kandakadu or Gallella treatment centers.

The Prisons Department also took steps to transfer the inmates who protested on the roof of the old Bogambara Prison yesterday (12) to two other prisons.

Meanwhile, Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya says that necessary steps are being taken to reduce prison congestion.
