A serious confusion has risen over the continuation of curfew in several police areas in the Kurunegala district.

According to a statement issued by Army Commander Shavendra Silva yesterday, the curfew was imposed only in the Kuliyapitiya Police Division in addition to the Kurunegala Municipal Council area in the Kurunegala District.

However, there was no clear reference to the lifting of the curfew for Narammala, Giriulla, Pannala and Dummalasuriya areas in the Kuliyapitiya SSP's area, which was in effect until yesterday.

As a result, senior police officers in the Kurunegala District as well as the OICs of those police stations are facing serious problems, our sources said.

When inquired about this, a senior Police officer stated that he has not yet received a clear statement as to whether the curfew has been lifted or not. He further stated that the people are also facing a problem due to this situation and some people are coming to the city thinking that the curfew has been lifted.
