Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella has sent a letter to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena requesting that members of the Samagi Jana Balawega who voted in favor of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution be given seats in the ruling party.

The MPs who supported the amendment were Diana Gamage, A. Aravind Kumar, Ishaq Rahuman, Faisal Qasim, H.M. Harris, M.S. Tawfiq, Nasir Ahmed, A.A.S.M. Rahim and M. M. Musharraf.

Mr. Kiriella also stated that the above request is being made as it has been decided to expel those members from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya group.
