The Sri Lankan Embassy in China has drawn mixed reaction over a seemingly unusual tweet in reation to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to Sri Lanka.

"Sorry Mr. Secretary @SecPompeo, we're busy promoting #China-#SriLanka friendship and cooperation, not interested in your #AlienVsPredator game invitation. The US can play two roles at the same time as always," the Embassy tweeted yesterday.

It was triggered by a comment Pompeo made on the "predatory" nature of China's involvement in Sri Lanka's politics and economy.

The bold tweet by the Chinese embassy, however, has drawn crticism from some quarters due to its seemingly "undiplomatic" use of language.

The tweet was shared widely across multiple social meida platforms as it pointed to rising tensions between the US and China over their relations with Sri Lanka.
