Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has expressed his dissatisfaction over the release of brother of former minister Rishad Bathiudeen from the CID custody.
“It is sad to note the release of a suspect held in connection with the Easter Sunday’s attacks,” Cardinal Ranjith said at a press conference in Colombo.
“It is sad that the investigations are not going the way it should,” he said.
On Friday, Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratne said that Riyaj Bathiudeen was released as there was insufficient evidence against him for a case to be filed over the Easter Sunday attack.
However, the Police Spokesman in April said that Riyaj Bathiudeen had a direct connection with Easter bombers. Cardinal Ranjith at the press conference played a video where Police Spokesman mentioned that the Police have enough evidence against Riyaj Bathiudeen’s connection to Easter Sunday bombings.
