A five member committee has been appointed by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi to look into the conduct of the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
The SLMC, which is primarily responsible for the registration of government doctors in Sri Lanka, came under severe criticism recently for disqualifying three foreign universities in the country.
The decision led to a tussle between the governments of Sri Lanka and Russia.
However, it is learnt that the mandate of the committee will not be confined to probing the controversy over the foreign universities.
It will also look into other problems such as the issues pertaining to the registration of doctors and the recruitment of foreign medical graduates.
