Former Prime Minister and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has told the UNP Working Committee that the new leader of the party will also be selected through a secret ballot.

Wickremesinghe has informed this to the main decision-making body of the party after the election of Ruwan Wiewardena as the party's Deputy Leader.

However, it is also reported that Wickremesinghe will continue to be the party leader until January, 2021.

Wijewardena was elected the deputy leader of the party beating Ravi Karunanayake by a resounding margin.
