Prime Minster Mahinda Rajapaksa has told party leaders affiliated with the SLPP that the 20th Amendment to the Constitution will not be presented to the House until he receives the recommendationd of the committee looking into the draft.
Rajapaksa has appointed a committee headed by Prof. G. L. Peiris to advise him on matters related to 20A and the apparent dilution of the Prime Minister's powers. Many groups within the ruling alliance have raised concerns over the consequences of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
The other members of the Committee are Nimal Siripala de Silva (SLFP), Wimal Weerawansa (NFF), Udaya Gammanpila (Pivithuru Hela Urumaya)and Ali Sabry (SLPP).
The committeeis expected to have its first meeting tomorrow.
