Sri Lanka and Mobitel and Telecom announced that they were the first to connect Lankagama village with Voice and 4G/LTE services, responding to President’s clarion call.

Lankagama, located in the vicinity of the Sinharaja forest, is one of the most impoverished villages in the country.

The issues faced by the villagers of Lankagama made headlines last month due to the construction of an access road to the village.

Environmentalists raised strong concerns saying that the construction of the road would lead to the destruction of the Sinharaja forst. President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, however, visited the area and instructed authorities to construct the road without harming the environment.
