Nearly 25 people have been taken into custody for questioning following a joint operation conducted by the Army and Police in Wadukkodai, residents of the area said.
Exact charges under which they have been taken into custody are yet to be disclosed by the Army and Police.
Earlier today the Police said they were conducting an operation in the Wadukkodai area in search of a person named 'Gopi', who, according to the Police, has terrorist links. He was the man who opened fire at a Police team in Dharmapuram, Kilinochchi two weeks ago injuring one policeman.
Vernacular media reported that 'Gopi' was on a mission to resurrect the LTTE in the North with the support of some sections of the Tamil Diaspora.
'Asian Mirror' is awaiting a response from Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya in this regard.
