GMOA "Exit Strategy" Sparks Fresh Controversy: ICTA Director Says Document "Ridiculously Racist" And They Had No Role In Drafting

An 'Exit Strategy' prepared by the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) recommending measures to the government to ease the current restrictions in Sri Lanka has sparked a fresh controversy.

The GMOA previously said the document was prepared in collaboration with the ICTA — the apex ICT body for the government.

However, commenting on the document, ICTA Director Sanjiva Weerawarna tweeted, "The GMOA has published a document ref Cover-19 exit strategy co-branded with ICTA, with my name too, with ridiculous reference to “Muslim areas”. ICTA had NO role in this document."

"I did go for one meeting with GMOA and President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa along with ICTA Chairman Jayantha de Silva (and others). We were never shown this document nor did we consent to be co-authors of this document," Weerawarna said adding that the ICTA would issue an official response soon.

Following Weerawarna's response, the GMOA, on its Twitter handle said the document was prepared by them without any reference to the ICTA.
