The United National Party Working Committee will meet on Tuesday to make a final decision on the nomination of MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara as the General Secretary of the UNP-led alliance.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday said he would nominate Madduma Bandara as the General Secretary of the alliance, according to powers vested in him as the leader of the alliance.

However, the decision will have to be ratified by the UNP Working Committee.

Madduma Bandara, speaking to the media after the announcement said all party leaders of the alliance unanimously approved his name as the General Secretary.

It is still not clear whether UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is on the same page about the appointment.
