The Department of Immigration and Emigration has been brought under the Ministry of Defence.

A special Gazette notification in this regard has been issued by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

This further widens the scope of the Ministry of Defence which officially operates under State Minister Chamal Rajapaksa.

No Cabinet Minister for defence has been appointed by President Rajapaksa thus far.
