Former Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Saruwa Liyanage Sunil alias Saruwa Sunil has been given a 15 years Rigorous Imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.

He was convicted for raping a 14-year-old girl, the daughter of a couple who was employed by Sunil.

The High Court ruled that the charges against Saruwa Sunil had proven beyond reasonable doubt.

The former Akuressa PS Chairman was a member of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA). He faced multiple allegations over sexual crimes.
