The Police have launched an investigation into the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and the Independent Television Network (ITN) for violating media guidelines during the Presidential election period.

The investigation comes following a complaint lodged by the Elections Commission with the Police HEadquarters.

Informed sources said the former heads of the two state tun TV networks were under investigation.

Multiple reports claimed that media guidelines set by the Elections Commission were heavily violated by state and private media stations in the run up to the last Presidential election.
