The Cabinet of Ministers decided to move the Agriculture Ministry out of its current building in Rajagiriya.
The lease of the current building in Rajagiriya triggered a major controversy in the recent past as the government paid a whopping Rs. 21 million on a monthly basis to its owner. The new decision will bring the controversial lease agreement to an end.
The Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing corruption between 2015 and 2018 launched an investigation into the lease of the building.
According to the new decision, the Agriculture Ministry will be moved into the Govijana Mandiraya, in Battaramulla, where it was housed before the controversial lease agreement was signed.
However, Former Agriculture Minister Duminda Dissanayake is also a State Minister of the current government.
