Several prominent members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna have made it clear that their party should contest the next Parliamentary election under the flower bud symbol.
Speaking to the media in Anuradhapura, State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said the flower bud symbol was the choice of the people.
"If it is the choice of the people, there is no point in talking about other symbols," he added.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Renuka Perera, a former Provincial Councilor representing the SLPP.
However, according to the agreement signed by the SLPP with the SLFP, both parties have pledged to contest the upcoming Parliamentary election together under a common symbol.
They have reached an understanding to contest the election under the symbol 'Chair' - the symbol of the People's Alliance, the SLFP-led alliance while ruled the country from 1994 to 2001.
