President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said there would be no interference with media freedom during his tenure as the President.
Rajapaksa made these remarks while speaking to media heads earlier today.
This was Rajapaksa's first interaction with the Sri Lankan media upon assuming office as President.
However, he requested all media institutions to act in a "responsible manner".
He also sought their help to strengthen Sri Lanka's brand image in the international domain.
