UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella said the UNP would not support the abolition of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
Speaking to the media today, Kiriella said the UNP was, however, open to discuss changes to the 19th Amendment.
"The government should first tell us what the problematic areas are so we can discuss them," Kiriella added.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was an impediment to the work of the new government.
However, the new government requires a 2/3 majority in Parliament to alter the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
