The National Police Commission has decided to abolish the post of Police Media Spokesman.

SP Ruwan Gunasekera, who functioned as the Police Media Spokesman, has been reassigned as the Director of the Legal Division.

Meanwhile, government sources said there would be a new mechanism to issue media releases through a centralized defence media unit. They added the new unit would operate under a senior Army officer.

The reason for the change in structure is not immediately clear
