The Colombo High Court today permitted former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa to leave the country for medical treatment.

His lawyers told the High Court that Rajapaksa intended to leave the country during the period between December 05 and March 06 for medical treatment. The sState Counsel did not raise objections to the request by Rajapaksa's lawyers.

Rajapaksa was barred from leaving the country in relation to the Almanac Case in which he has been prosecuted for misappropriating state funds.

He was also the chief architect of the successful election campaign of the newly-elected President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
