SLPP Chairman Professor G.L. Peiris has been appointed a Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister.

Government sources said Peiris would advise Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on foreign affairs.

Peiris' appointment was approved at the first Cabinet meeting which took place this morning.

He was the Foreign Affairs Minister between 2010-2015 under Mahinda Rajapaksa's government.
