President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa will end the current session of Parliament, MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara said.
He added that the ceremonial opening of Parliament for the new session might take place during the second week of December.
It is customary for the President to make a policy statement at the start of the new session of Parliament.
Meanwhile, Nanayakkara said he did not intend to become the Speaker of Parliament, despite speculations by many.
He said Karu Jayasuriya would carry on as the Speaker as the ruling party did not command the majority support in the House.
