The Social Services Department has come under fire for appalling accommodation facilities given to athletes taking part in the national sports festival for disabled persons.

They had been provided accommodation at the Wijayaba College, Grandpass, without at least the most basic facilities.

The sports festival took place at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on November 26.

The accommodation facilities given to disabled athletes taking part in the festival came under severe criticism on social media, with many attributing the situation to the lethargic approach on the part of the Social Services Department.
