The government is currently considering a proposal to appoint Dr. Anurudhdha Padeniya as the Secretary to the Ministry of Health.

Padeniya is currently the President of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA).

He was considered to be a strong supporter of the political campaign of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa when the latter was preparing to run for the presidency,

The government sources said a final decision was yet to be made on the matter.

Padeniya will have to quit the GMOA if he is appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Health.
