Women and Media Collective has filed a FR petition in the Supreme Court seeking an interim order staying and suspending the Presidential Pardon granted to Royal Park murder convict Shramantha Jude Anthony Jayamaha.
Jayamaha was pardoned by President Sirisena who said a number of religious leaders, including political monk Athuraliye Rathana Thera, had requested for his released.
Jayamaha was convicted for killing Swedish teenager Yvonne Jonsson at the Royal Park housing complex in Colombo. The Police informed the court that the victim's skull was fractured into 64 pieces.
His release caused a firestorm of criticism due to the horrific nature of the crime he committed.
In a moving letter to the public, Jayamaha asked for "another chance" to correct his life.
