Podujana Peramuna Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa called a hasty press conference this afternoon to address resurfacing allegation the party candidate had not given up his U.S. citizenship and was thereby disqualified from contesting the Presidential election.
At the press conference lawyer Ali Sabry held up evidence that candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s U.S. citizenship had been revoked in the form of a letter and his U.S. passport which had been cancelled.
The lawyer also addressed rumors that Rajapaksa had booked a ticket to Los Angeles to leave the day after the election, noting that his local passport had been impounded and he could not leave even if he wanted to, although he had no reason to at all.
He also said all evidence pertaining to Rajapaksa's renouncement had been handed over to the Elections Commission.
