SLFP National Organizer and former General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake said SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa would only win the Presidential election with SLFP votes.

Addressing a meeting in Anuradhapura, Dissanayake said Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the SLPP had a base vote of 5 million.

"But, that is not enough to secure a clear victory at the Presidential election. They can only make use of their base vote, with the SLFP's 1.7 million votes," he added.

Dissanayake added that Rajapaksa's base vote would be of no value without the support of the SLFP.

He said Gotabhaya Rajapaksa would win the Presidential election on November 16 owing to the SLFP's decision to throw their weight behind the SLPP candidate.
