Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today said he would continue in the premiership under UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa's presidency.
Responding to a query by a journalist during a meeting at Temple Trees this morning, Wickremesinghe said there would be no change in the premiership in the event of Premadasa presidency.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe briefed the media and civil society representatives of the progress achieved by the current government on many a front.
UNP General Secretary Akula Viraj Kariyawasam and Minister Ravi Karunanayake have also made it clear that Wickremesinghe will retain premiership under the Premadasa presidency.
However, during the party's election campaign, a number of relatively young leaders of the party have indicated that a 'new face' will be appointed as the Prime Minister once Premadasa is elected to power.
