Former Director of FCID Senior DIG (retired) Ravi Waidyalankara said he came under serious political pressure to expedite investigations against the Rajapaksa family.

Speaking to the media, Waidyalankara said the FCID was only allowed to investigate complaints forwarded by Anti-Corruption Secretariat, headed by President's Counsel J.C. Weliamuna.

He added several politicians including Rajitha Senaratne, Malik Samarawickrema, Sarath Fonseka, Champika Ranawaka and Anura Kumara Dissanayake attended the meetings of this outfit.

"If there was more independence and autonomy, the FCID would have delivered better results," Waodyalankara said.

He also stated that the most serious complaints were lodged against the members of the Rajapaksa family.

"We investigated the MIG deal but there was no evidence to link Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to the transaction. We cannot take action against an individual without concrete evidence," he said.
