Army Commander Lt. General Shavendra Silva has informed the Elections Commission Chairman that an extract from one of his speeches has been used for a campaign Advertisement supporting SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, without his knowledge.

The Army Commander made this revelation on the controversial election advertisement featuring the photograph of the incumbent Army Commander.

The UNP has already lodged a complaint with the Elections Commission stating that the advertisement is a stark violation of the elections regulations.

The Army Commander has explained to the Elections Commission that his quote, which has been used for the advertisement, is an extract from a recent speech made at Taj Exotica.

Meanwhile, the SLPP campaign office has informed the Elections Commission that they are unaware of who originated the advertisement under question.
