The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka has written to Rakwana Mineral Exploration Private Limited warning the company about the use of its shortcode 1326 for the political campaign of UNP candidate Sajith Premadasa.

The TRC says the company will run the risk of its shortcode being suspended if they fail to take measures to stop Premadasa's campaign from using it for political purposes.

The TRC's letter makes it clear that the hotline has been assigned to the company for commercial use and it cannot be used for any purpose other than the permitted objectives.

The hotline was used by Premadasa's campaign to get the involvement of volunteers to promote the UNP Deputy Leader's presidential bid. They were encouraged to give a missed call to the hotline and sign up for the campaign.
