UNP MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka today accepted UNP Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa's invitation to serve in the highest capacity within the country's national security establishment.

Addressing his inaugural Presidential rally, Premadasa said Fonseka, the war-winning Army commander, would be given the highest responsibility in the defence apparatus under his presidency.

Fonseka, speaking at the same rally after Premadasa, said he would be glad to serve under Premadasa and uphold national security.

"He knows me well and he knows my family. It is an honour to work under a president who understands the value of national security," Fonseka said.

Fonseka was initially a string critic of Premadasa describing the latter as a man who shied away from matters of national importance.
