Former Army Commander General Mahesh Senanayake will officially launch his Presidential election campaign on September 29.
Senanayake will mark his entry into politics by addressing a meeting at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on Sunday, organized by the National People's Movement (NPM).
Senanayake will be the candidate of the same movement which projects itself as an alternative political group.
He is the second former Commander of the Army to run for the presidency following the footsteps of Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.
Senanayake spent a long time in his military career actively engaging in operations against the LTTE.
