President Maithripala Siisena has called for an emergency Cabinet meeting at 3 PM today.
The meeting comes a day after the Elections Secretariat issued a Gazette notification declaring the Presidential election 2019.
The purpose of the meeting, our sources said, is to discuss the total abolition of the Executive Presidency.
There were also wide speculations in the political circles that the President was planning to seek the opinion of the Supreme Court if his term was for six years from January 8, 2015 as the 19th Amendment came after he was elected for six years according to the Constitution prevailing at the time.
