The Facebook page of Colombo Telegraph, a prominent online content platform, has been taken down by Facebook Inc. without specifying any reason, Asian Mirror learns.
Uvindu Kurukulasuriya, Editor of Colombo Telegraph, said he wasn't given any reason for the closure of the page.
"The page was started in 2011 and we gradually and organically developed a solid audience around it. We never boosted the site and always relied on organic growth," he said.
Suspicions have arisen when a group affiliated with President Maithripala Sirisena is behind the move.
Colombo Telegraph faced bans in Sri Lanka under the previous government. The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) ordered internet data service providers to block access to the site, as the platform was critical of the government.
The ban was lifted after the current government came to power in January 2015.
