The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent the extradition request of former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran to the Sri Lankan High Commission of Singapore for onward transmission to the Singapore Foreign Ministry.
President Sirisena, earlier this week, signed the extradition papers of former Mahendran which presented a detailed account of his involvement in the alleged bond scam.
The Singaporean government has not made any commitment thus far to extradite the former Central Governor.
However, legal experts including Dr. Prathibha Mahanamahewa have made it clear that Singapore would take at least two years to study the documents and ensure the extradition of Mahendran.
The former Central Bank Governor, a suspect in the bond case, is a citizen of Singapore.
