Eyebrows have been raised in the SLFP circles over Parliamentarian Mahinda Samarasinghe’s punctilious interest in the wellbeing of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
At the 68th Anniversary of the SLFP a video was played depicting the difficulties faced by President Maithripala Sirisena due to the actions of the Prime Minister. The video was made by Presidential Media Division (PMD) Deputy Director Nishad Upendra.
However, Samarasinghe had drawn attention to the fact that the video had depicted the Prime Minister, and his crony Ravi Karunanayake, as convicts—and has asked if that would not hurt the feelings of the Prime Minister.
Political columns reported that an incensed President Sirisena had reportedly called SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera and PMD Deputy Director Upendra and asked them for an immediate explanation.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who had heard about this had reportedly thanked Samarsinghe for looking after his interests.
But the incident had caused several SLFPers present to wonder about Samarasinghe’s newfound concern for the Prime Minister.
