A giant hoarding erected in Maharagama in support of SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa fell earlier tiday, injuring a person and severely damaging a vehicle.

The hoarding has been erected by SLPP's Kanthi Kodikara to co gratulate Rajapaksa on his candidacy. Both Kanthi Kdikara and her husband, Upali Kodikara, are members of the SLPP.

Rajapaksa has announced that he will run his presidential campaign without using plastic and polythene that cause severe damage to the environment.

"Despite Rajapaksa's announcement, his supporters seem to be relying on environmental pollutants to run the SLPP's election campaign," a political observer said.
