Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has resigned from his post as the Chairman of the Dayaka Sabhawa at the Kelaniya Rajamaha Temple after a resolution against him was passed by the body recently.
The resolution called for the removal of Wickremesinghe as the Chairman of the Dayaka Sabhawa of the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya.
Wickremesinghe's family was deeply involved in the affairs of the temple for many decades.
"Removing Prime Minister Wickremesinghe from his long-held position of Chairman of the Dayaka Sabhā of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara, renovated by his great grandmother Helena Wijewardene who donated hundreds of acres to the temple for its upkeep, is a low act by its newfound Rajapakse aligned dayakayas," Minister Harsha de Silva tweeted.
