Minister Ravi Karunanayake said he was not aware of any move to abolish the Executive Presidency at this point.
Speaking to the media after a religious event, Karunanayake said it was impossible to abolish the Executive Presidency at this late stage of President Maithripala Sirisena's presidency.
However, Karunanayake said he advocated the abolition of Executive Presidency for 25 years.
"I never changed my position. I stood by the same principles. In fact, at every election, we sought a mandate promising to abolish the Executive Presidency."
When asked about internal issues within the party, Karunanayake said they were working to resolve those issues amicably.
