UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said they would send a formal invitation to the Sri Laka Podujana Peramuna for the SLFP convention on September 03.

The convention will take place at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.

Amaraweera said as per the invitation, anyone nominated by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna would be able to attend the SLFP convention.

However, the UPFA General Secretary said no invitations would be sent to individual MPs representing other parties. Samaraweera made these remarks when journalists asked whether Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is now officially the Leader of the SLPP, would be invited for the SLFP convention.

"SLFP MPs will not require special invitations to attend the party convention," he said.

However, SLFP MPs decided not to attend the inaugural convention of the SLPP earlier this month, where former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was anointed as the Presidential candidate of the party.
