An audio recording of an internal meeting of the United National Party is currently being circulated on social media, in which Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe is captured blaming Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for not making way for 'change' in the party.
Although the date and time of the meeting is not entirely clear, it is evident that the meeting had taken place after the outbreak of 'political tensions' between President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
In the audio recording, Senasinghe denies any secret deals with President Sirisena.
Senasinghe also presents a number of grievances he had due to his "unwavering commitment" to the United National Party.
The Minister also says he came under for protecting the government over the bond scam. "The government to raise its head because I was involved in the second COPE committee probing the bond scam," he says.
"Ravi Karunanayake is my archrival in the Colombo district. But I never uttered a name against him on the bond issue as it is not good for the party. That's how I've shown my commitment to protect the UNP."
"I will never leave the party under any circumstances. Even after 20 years from now, I will remain a member of the UNP," Senasinghe adds.
