The Tamil National Alliance, the largest Tamil party in the North, is not inclined to support UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa's presidential bid, a senior TNA MP told Asian Mirror.
"If Premadasa becomes the UNP candidate, we will seriously consider the option of supporting JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake," he added.
The MP, who wished to remain anonymous, said the UNP Deputy Leader has not made his position clear about the grievances faced by Tamil people in the North.
"We don't know where he stands on the constitution, we don't know what he thinks about the devolution of power as a political solution to the Tamil problem," the Parliamentarian further explained. However, he said there was no need to rush to a decision, as the UNP is yet to nominate its presidential candidate.
"No Presidential candidate can win the election without the support of the TNA. Our votes played a critical role in Maithripala Sirisena's victory at the last presidential election."
The TNA has supported the UNP-led alliance's candidate at many Presidential elections.
