UNP backbenchers are planning to facilitate another meeting between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa.

Although Wickremesinghe and Premadasa held a meeting last week, it ended inconclusively with both leaders adamantly expressing their intentions to run for the Presidency.

However, UNP backbenchers are of the view that the issues relating to the Presidential candidacy should only be resolved through consensus.

"Therefore, it is very important to push for a candid discussion between the Prime Minister and the UNP Deputy Leader on the Presidential candidacy," a UNP backbencher told Asian Mirror.

The UNP is sharply divided over the party's Presidential candidate for the next election.
