The Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna's first national convention is due to be held at 3 pm at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium today.

The party is currently preparing for the convention, where fomer President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who will be announced the leader of the party, will announce the party's presidential candidate.

It is widely-expected that former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa will be announced the party's Presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, the former Defence Secretary visited the Abhayarama Temple in Kelaniya this afternoon, to obtain blessings there. Reports are that he will visit the Kelaniya Temple in the night, after the national convention is over.
