UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa issued a statement claiming that he was in favour of forming an alliance after naming the Presidential candidate of the party.

Premadasa said once the issue over the Presidential candidacy is resolved, a number of parties will align with the UNP and support the party's election campaign.

The UNP Deputy Leader said there was no point in pushing for an alliance when the UNP is undecided over the Presidential candidacy.

He said there was no truth in reports that he and the Prime Minister arrived at an understanding to form an alliance soon.
