UPFA MP S.B. Dissanayake said Sajith Premadasa's father was the only person who became the President of the country through illegal means.

Speaking to the media after a press conference in Colombo, the Presidential election in 1989 was corrupt to the core.

"The situation of the country was very unstable and it enabled Premadasa to use illegal means to win the election," Dissanayake said.

Dissanayake was a member of the SLFP at the time.

"We are glad if Sajith Premadasa becomes the presidential candidate of the UNP. We can talk about all these topics if he joins the electoral fray," the MP said.

Premadasa is one of the front-runners for the Presidential election on the UNP ticket.
